Dear Neighbors,
We’re excited to announce that Sutton Area Community (SAC) has received official approval from the State of New York for our Tree Grate Pilot Program — a neighborhood improvement initiative we proposed to Assembly Member Alex Bores earlier this year.
🌳 What’s happening?
All existing tree beds and deteriorating tree boxes along 1st Avenue (East and West sides, from 52nd St to 59th St) will be replaced with clean, uniform tree grates.
🌱 And even better — in locations where trees are missing, SAC is working with NYC Parks to have new trees planted, restoring greenery where it’s been lost.
✅ Why this matters:
· Stops trash and rodent build-up in tree beds
· Protects tree root systems and encourages healthy growth
· Beautifies our streets and improves accessibility
· Replaces missing trees to enhance our urban canopy
· Reduces maintenance and long-term costs
This project is a big win for our community’s health, safety, and appearance. SAC is proud to lead this effort — and we’re grateful to Assembly Member Alex Bores and his office for supporting this important initiative.
We’ll keep you updated as the project rolls out!
Community improvements like this are possible thanks to your support.
If you’d like to help SAC continue beautifying and protecting our neighborhood, please consider making a tax-deductible donation today. Every contribution — big or small — helps us keep Sutton Place cleaner, greener, and more livable for everyone.
Thank you for being part of our community and for your continued support in making Sutton Place a cleaner, greener, and more livable neighborhood.
Warmly,
Sutton Area Community (SAC)
