Recent Congestion Pricing Update – Community Board Six
As you may have heard, the Central Business District Tolling Program, also known as congestion pricing, is set to begin at midnight on January 5, 2025. This program aims to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality in Manhattan’s central business district.
Key Details:
Toll Amounts:
Passenger vehicles with E-ZPass will be charged:
$9 during peak periods.
$2.25 overnight (once daily).
Rates may vary based on vehicle type, time of day, crossing credits, and payment methods.
Discounts & Exemptions:
Certain discounts or exemptions may apply to qualifying individuals, vehicles, or trips. For more details, visit mta.info/discounts.
Payment Method:
E-ZPass is the easiest and most cost-effective way to pay. Ensure your E-ZPass account is updated with your current license plate number to receive the appropriate rates and credits.
Drivers without E-ZPass will be billed through the MTA’s Tolls by Mail program, likely at a higher rate.
Program Goals:
The congestion pricing program is designed to:
Reduce vehicle traffic in Manhattan below 60th Street.
Generate funding for public transit improvements.
Enhance air quality and lower emissions in the city.
Implementation and Enforcement:
The program will use a network of cameras and sensors at entry points into Manhattan to identify and bill vehicles.
Enforcement will apply to all vehicles entering the congestion zone, with penalties for non-payment.
How to Prepare:
Update Your E-ZPass Account:
Verify your account information, including license plate numbers.
