On December 19, 2023 the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and NYC Department of Parks and Recreation opened the East Midtown Greenway and Phase 2B of Andrew Haswell Green Park connecting to Clara Coffey Park on East 54th Street in Sutton Place. Together, the two pieces include a park, a pedestrian walkway, a pedestrian bridge, and a bike lane extending 1.1 miles. The total Greenway presently spans 12.9 miles.
We at SAC are working with NYC Parks to create a more secure environment along the Greenway. This includes:
.● Requesting a gate to be installed at the E 54th St entrance.
● Posted at the entrance an opening and closing sign (Open 6AM – 1AM daily).
● Confirming security cameras are connected to the 17th Precinct.
● The 17th Precinct is requesting more security cameras, and working with NYC Parks to fulfill this request.
● Maintaining 3 call boxes for emergency use.
● 3 NCOs (Neighborhood Coordinating Officers) from the 17th Precinct are patrolling the Greenway, with the ability to call additional officers if needed.
● Determining whether E-Bikes are allowed.
● Providing updates as necessary.
